IMFH | About Us
The mission of the CHLA-USC Institute for Maternal-Fetal Health (IMFH) is to improve the health of women and their children through comprehensive, integrated clinical care, public and individual education, scientific research and premier training of medical and allied health professionals. This is achieved through the Institute's unique alliance of medical leaders from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. By combining the expertise of leading medical specialists, we are able to provide mother and child with the most advanced care available.
In the past, women with complicated pregnancies faced fragmented services and often have not known where to turn for help. IMFH has created a new reality by offering access to the most advanced clinical care, state-of-the-art medical technology, social and psychological support services, teaching and research at a single site. The CHLA-USC Institute for Maternal-Fetal Health is the only facility of its kind in Southern California and one of only a few nationwide. While we focus primarily on high-risk pregnancies, we address a full spectrum of complex maternal and fetal medical, genetic, metabolic and developmental abnormalities. Above all, we tailor our services to each individual who turns to us for help.
Major advances in contemporary medicine have reshaped the relationship between adult and pediatric medicine. Improved ability to diagnose and treat fetal conditions has led to the recognition of the fetus as a separate patient. As a result, the unique needs of potential new mothers and their babies are best met by a multidisciplinary team of specialists from many different areas of medicine, nursing and related fields.
At IMFH, our team includes nursing care coordinators, perinatologists, geneticists, neonatologists, cardiologists, radiologists, pediatric surgeons, urologists, fetoscopic surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, craniofacial surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, psychosocial counselors, epidemiologists, teratologists and nurses from maternity, neonatology and pediatric specialties.
Our team members combine their knowledge and experience to provide you with the most advanced and accurate information available. This unique collaboration helps ensure the best possible care for you and your baby.
