Roger De Filippo, MD, is pediatric urologist at the Institute for Maternal Fetal Health. Additionally he is an assistant professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and head of the Laboratory for Organ Regenerative Research and Tissue Engineering, Saban Research Institute, CHLA.
Research Interests
Dr. Filippo's research focuses on de novo organ regeneration in the laboratory for reconstruction and transplantation. His current research projects include de novo kidney development for renal transplantation, and other tissue substitutes, for genitourinary reconstruction using tissue engineering applications.
Clinical Interests
As part of the Pediatric Urology Division at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), Dr. Filippo's clinical interests are in pediatric urology including surgical correction of hypospadias, undescended testicles, hydroceles, hernias, vesicoureteral reflux, GU tumors (Wilms, testis cancer), ureteropelvic junction obstruction and all causes of hydronephrosis. The Pediatric Division at CHLA also specializes in more complex disorders requiring extensive surgical reconstruction including intersex, bladder exstrophy, complete urinary reconstruction and renal transplantation, and offer the most current treatment modalities available in endosocpic and laproscopic surgery as well as the management of neurogenic bladder.
Education
Dr. Filippo earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California. He completed internships in general surgery at the LAC+USC Medical Center. He then received additional training during his residencies at LAC+USC Medical Center in general surgery and urology. Before joining the Institute for Maternal Fetal Health, he completed a fellowship in pediatric urology at Children's Hospital Boston. He has several publications focusing on urology diseases and treatments.
